Red Deer Rut

Just returned from a full day on Westleton Heath in Suffolk to capture some images of this years Red Deer rut. Have not been for a couple of years and certainly discovered a lot less deer around than I have ever seen in this area in the almost 10 years of visiting the rut here. With some of my old haunts deprived of any deer activity, seemed very odd.  Talking to some locals and as I suspected with noticing a few high chairs scattered around, there seems to have been quite a large cull taking place in the area. Much prefer wolves & Bears back myself, the natural way.
Anyway, I did manage to track a couple of groups down & spent sometime photographing and witnessing some rutting taking place. So, quite pleased with what I has managed to photograph. I have put a small selection on the Flickr site. Click on link below:

Now off to see the local Fallow Bucks and see what they are up to.
Speak soon, Ray.

Got up early hours of Monday morning to witness & photograph the super moon with the lunar eclipse and for once the skies were nice & clear & managed a few shots taken from my bedroom window. I have posted an image on flickr.

@ Cressing Temple Barns this August Bank holiday Sunday & Monday

Hi, thanks all that came to Ingatestone Hall last weekend. Met many new faces that had not seen my work until now. Thanks for all the positive comments and appreciation I received +  thanks to all that made the commitment and purchased some of my mounted images, cards or bookmarks. I hope you all have many years of enjoyment with them.

For your interest I will be at the Cressing Temple Barns Guild of Essex Craftsmen Craft Fair end of this month the August Bank Holiday weekend Sunday 30th & Monday 31st. This event is much bigger than Ingatestone with close to 90-100 tables spread all over the site. Hope to see you there.

You may have noticed that some Astro images are starting to appear on the flickr site. I have started to play around with telescopes & cameras combined and looking into doing some deep space imaging. Just for fun, just need some clear & very dark nights to come, hopefully the winter nights will pay dividends. I will let you know how I progress with this as the year goes on. Keep a check on flickr to see what I may have achieved. Although its a steep learning curve & not as easy as I thought.

See you soon
Ray

Recent goings on

Hi , Just been doing some more Kingfisher diving work in Suffolk. See flickr for details.
Also added another craft fair venue for this year I will be at St Marys church in the high street in Billericay Essex Saturday 12th December 2015. Please come along and visit us. There will be around 16 stalls inside the church + all the usual Christmas festivities going on.

In the meantime my next venue is August 8th & 9th at Ingatestone Hall, Ingatestone, Essex. open 12-5pm both days. This Tudor mansion is a magnificent venue to visit alone + the added bonus of the free craft fair within the entry price is worth a visit.

Scotland

Hi, Just returned from a couple of days in Scotland photographing Ospreys & Dippers. Please see link to view a few of the images I managed to capture.
www.flickr.com/photos/raystammersphotography

Its been 5 years since I last went to Scotland, that was early winter then & managed the usual red squirrels, Crested Tits etc.. But wanted to visit it in the summer for mainly Osprey well...
Despite the cold & bad weather with snow still on the mountains, bombarded with ice rain temperatures close to freezing. I managed to capture a few images of fishing Osprey for a couple of hours of 3 very early mornings 4am chilly mornings that is. It was brilliant to witness these birds in action & wonderful that I managed the shots as the light was mainly terrible albeit the 1st morning but no Ospreys showed up after 3 fished at first light but unable to achieve sharp images on those. The 2nd day was much better 6 birds within a couple of hours. The 3rd morning visit was very short 3 came in one after the other within minutes of setting up. Sadly none returned for the rest of the duration. But none the less came away very happy with what I had captured.

Dippers is a subject I have wanted to photograph for years & not getting these in the South eastern part of the UK it was something I really put some effort into during the very short stay in Scotland.  The three sites researched & recommended two of them on the last day came up trumps and finally managed a few shots. Managed to see & photograph a few other species whilst there: Grey wagtail, Ringed Ouzel, Heron, Lapwing & chicks, Thrushes, Red Grouse, Oystercatchers & chicks and more. Overall a short but very enjoyable visit. Pity its a 10 hour drive away.

Just ploughing through the Raws now. Have low res a few for flickr take a look.
